Don't Get Mad, Get Plaid....

...sorry for that. Jk. I'm not.

I love plaid and I don't care who knows it.
If you are some of the lucky people to have known me since middle school, you witnessed the preppy years. And for those of you who missed it, consider yourself lucky. It was BAD. REALLY BAD. I'm talking monograms on everything from my jackets to my underwear. (I wish I were kidding...)

While I've outgrown the preppy stage, I haven't outgrown my high school plaid obsession. In fact, the shirt I'm styling today is one that's been in my closet for about 6 years. I scooped up this jacket a while back at Goodwill,  (yeah, no shame) but it originally came from Dillards. It still had the $120 tag attached to it when I purchased it for $6. Tip: Go to Goodwill. Seriously.

My favorite part about this shirt is the suede accents on the chest and cuffs. It takes this plaid to a whole new level and looks different than all the others I have in my closet. It's a win-win!

Back in the day, I would've paired this Ralph Lauren shirt with a monogrammed puffer vest, skinny jeans, and riding boots. Today however, I mix it up a bit. It's been a bit chilly and rainy in Austin this month so I've learned how to dress warm but not sweat to death in the process.

More than ever, I'm glad I moved to Austin with this fur vest in my suitcase. It's become a staple in my closet the last few weeks. It is another item I've had in my closet for years. It's from JC Penny and a dark brown faux fur. The best part? It goes with EVERYTHING.

Let's talk jeans. Flying Monkey is my go-to brand. They are a bit pricey but for me, fit is most important and these fit me perfectly. I purchased these from STRUT for $99. Totally worth it. I finished the look by cuffing my jeans about a 1/4 of an inch and threw on my favorite pair of grey Seychelle booties

I know everyone likes to buy new clothes. Trust me, I'm the same way. However, it is nice to pull some "classics" out of your closet from time to time and adjust the way you style it based around the "new and improved you."

....but just to remind y'all what the preppy days looked like, here's a picture of me wearing a Lilly Pulitzer jumpsuit + a Lilly Pulitzer bow. RIP.

God bless plaid and transformations. Goodbye high school preppy Morgan.
You're gone but never forgotten.
