My birthday was last week and we celebrated a few days late by using my birthday gift card (thanks Inez!) to one of my favorite restaurants in Austin: Flower Child. Located in the new Rock Rose portion of The Domain up north, Flower Child focuses on healthy food and a happy world. They use fresh ingredients and support local farmers while composing their menus.
Here's a quick run down of what we ordered.
Appetizer:
Simple Hummus $6: peppadew, olive, lemon & oregano
REVEW: INCREDIBLE FLAVOR. Loved the olives. Not enough tortilla to eat with the hummus.
Eddie K:
Late Riser Bowl $9: cage-free eggs, heirloom bean, quinoa, roasted chile, salsa, avocado, corn, greek yogurt, queso blanco (add steak)
REVIEW: Loved it! The bowl was quite simple but the added protein with the steak made took this meal to the next level. It was cooked perfectly!
Rose Petal Lemonade
"Forbidden" Rice Bowl $9: black pearl, red japonica, snap pea, bok choy, broccoli, carrot, onion, toasted sesame, red chili; (add sliced chicken)
REVIEW: BEST. BOWL. EVER. I suggest making sure you ask for sliced chicken rather than shredded. It's WAYY better but it's not a common choice so you may end up like me with a messed up order.
Cranberry Pomegranate Lemonade
REVIEW: SUPER SWEET but a night blend of tartness.
We finished off our meal with a free birthday dessert. The gluten-free brownie was a bit crunchy but the flavor was devine.
If you haven't been to Flower Child, go ASAP. It's one of the bets places in Austin for a healthy but fulfilling lunch/dinner. Plus, it's in the cutest shopping area EVER.
